The Optimist is, quite simply, the dinghy in which the young people of the WORLD learn to sail. Sailed in over 110 countries by over 150,000 young people, it is the ONLY dinghy approved by the International Sailing Federation exclusively for sailors under 16 years of age.

Today there are about 3,200 Club and Collegiate 420s in over 350 sailing organizations. The fleet is growing because it is affordable, rugged, competitive, and most of all, a fun boat to sail and race. It is raced by student sailors at the intercollegiate (ICSA) and interscholastic (ISSA) levels.

The Laser is an Olympic-class sailboat sailed competitively across the globe. Competitive Laser sailing is governed by the International Laser Class Association (ILCA). This association is broken down into regions and districts. Laser sailing in the United States and Canada is governed by the ILCA - North American Region (ILCA-NA). The is a 19' centerboard sloop originally designed as an affordable family day-sailor and racing boat. There's room in the cockpit for two couples or a family to day-sail, but the Lightning is easy to ramp launch and light enough to trailer with ease. She has evolved into one of the most popular and competitive one-design racing classes in the world.

The J/24 is for everyone ages 16 to 80, no matter what their style racing is, day-sailing, or cruising. She is dry on deck and her "weekender" cabin makes it possible to get warm on cold days. She can be sailed easily by one person with only the mainsail.

The 23' Sonar one-design keelboat is a high-performance racer and also a comfortable daysailor just right for getting the entire family or friends on the water together. It was designed by Bruce Kirby and almost 700 boats have been built since 1980. The Sonar has recently achieved status as an International Class. www.shumwaymarine.com.
